How to prepare for a virtual interview?

  • Practice with the software fi you are able to (Teams/Zoom/other platforms)

  • Ensure any devices are fully charged.

  • Try to minimise distractions

  • Dress the part as if it is a face to face interview

  • Keep notes to a minimum so you are not looking down from the camera, or stick some on your screen near the webcam

  • Have contact details handy so you can call the interviewer if technology fails

  • Prepare your competency based examples using the STAR technique

How do I research before an interview?

  • Research the company – use their website, their LinkedIn page, Glassdoor to find out what you can about their values, mission statement, recent ideas/products/services etc

  • Research the role – become familiar with the job description and potential duties/accountabilities of the role. 

  • Speak to any contacts you have within the organisation – what can they tell you about the company culture and how they operate?

What Qs to ask in an interview?

How will you measure my performance?

  • What expectations would you have of me within the first 6 / 12 months in post?

  • What challenges, if any, does the company face in the next year?

  • What is the size of the team?

  • What training/development is provided?

  • What are the next steps in the interview process?

  • Has the company changed in any notable ways since you started here?
